U.S.unemployment Rate for Blacks - 25 yr High
According to the Black Caucus the unemployment for Black Americans is expected to reach a 25 year high this year. There was a study done on the subject and it currently is soaring in five state reaching over 20%.
It was researched and announced that Blacks and Latinos were far behind the whites in employment, even when there were no problems with the economy. It was also found that black men far exceeded the women in being unemployed.
The predicted rate for unemployment is expected to reach 6.1 % for whites, and 11.3% for blacks. In the State of Virginia the unemployment is projected to be 6.3% whites out of jobs, and 13% blacks out of jobs.
There are a lot of states that were hit by the economy and lack of jobs. The rate in Illinois, Alabama, Ohio, and South Carolina are expected to reach over 20%.
The Black Caucus are protesting, they want the president to create training programs and jobs in low income communities with the highest unemployment rates. The Black Caucus until now have waited to see what the President plans to do, but states are saying that they can no long wait for jobs. They plan to march in large numbers to get his attention and other representatives in Washington.
In 2008 black poverty was at 34% and is expected to rise with the unemployment rate. (United for a Fair Economy) issued a report that said blacks earn 62 cents for every dollar that whites earn. The family median net worth of whites in 2007 was $170,000 and for blacks it was $27,800.
Brian Miller, executive director of United for a Fair Economy and co-author of the report said "We have a long history of discriminating policies and practices, including outright segregation, redlining, misguided urban renewal plans and predatory lending, that have prevented people of color from building up personal wealth."
Statistics show that 15.5% of Black Americans are out of work and still looking for a job. The general employment rate is dropping of 8%. Other factors might be education and continuing discrimination and the young age of black workers. Black unemployment tends to run twice the rate for whites.
A case was cited in (skillsinfo) that a young black woman who is 37 years old and had her MBA. She had a job as a Bank Executive and her position was phased out. She is one of the 15.5 % of Black Americans out of work and still looking for a job. When the Banks were bailed out, they should have been an Equal Opportunity Employment Agency. However they took the money and did what they wanted to do, equal or not.
The present problem with the blacks are what are they going to do? The unemployment insurance won't last much longer, and jobs must be created. Our system can't take care of the non-working. One solution would be to start up your own business. If you know of someone who can write a grant, investigate what is available to you.
There are still lending sources that will support a new business venture. Or do a Home Based Business Opportunity, there are a lot of opportunities that are available. There are parents who have no means to purchase school clothing. Think about going to thrift shops, like the Salvation Army or Goodwill. At some of the church thrift shops they will give clothing and supplies. In my city a group gave away over 5,000 book bags with supplies in them. This is the time to be thrifty and look for other way to survive.

I think that Rove/Cheney/Rumsfeld and others planned for this during the Reagan era. There were rumors back in the 70's about the very things that are happening today. We keep trying to wake up, the America is still very much asleep. Great hub.
Thanks Werner for telling the truth, people don't want to hear the truth!
I'm glad you mentioned the building of the jailhouses. The policymakers are not stupid. They know all these unemployed people are going to get frustrated and find other avenues, sometimes illegal avenues. And once the prison system starts to get extremely overcrowded (not like it isn't already), you'll hear politicians talk about using the penned up labor force for something. Business leaders don't want to just make profits. They want to make astronomical profits and the cheaper the labor, the more they make. All these business leaders to me renounced their citizenship the day they sent their first American job overseas. That's the day they showed where their true loyalty lies - and its all green. Peace
Nan, it is so hard for people with messed up credit to get any financial help to begin a business. And even if they did, their main customers would be their neighbors who are also struggling and have few resources. It's like a bunch of people in the desert trying to make a puddle into a lake. A recent study here in Milwaukee estimated that 34% of black men are unemployed, and they think the number is even higher because it didn't include people who have given up searching. The study also talked about all the manufacturing jobs that left this area in the past ten years and how those were the mainstay employment for many of these people. The report also said at one point in the study, as many there was like a 4-1 ratio of black men looking for work and jobs available. And don't even begin to factor in the people who are working for way less than their needs - the underemployed. Whether white America likes it or not, there is a big problem out there, a big gap forming. The recent education changes are not going to help the problem. All it will do is create an uneducated and desperate minority workforce. Then, the rich will finally say the climate is right to bring back the manufacturing jobs. Indentured servitude is right around the corner and come up fast. Peace

Xenonlit, thanks for your comment. I find it hard to believe that there is so much prejudice in the US today. Yes, it was planned about the 1980's that they wanted to recind the EEOC. And, they almost did. Supreme Court Jurist Thomas work on the remove of the importance of the EEOC, and he got to be a Supreme Court Judge. People must not know that your blood is the same color and tissue in your body is the same color, your bones are the same color, and etc. If they don't beleive in God then they should wonder how did this happen. If they plan to go to heaven, they are going to be disapointed to find out the blacks are there too. The Bible tells us that Jesus had wooly hair, not silky. What is this? I am a science major and the whole thing is awful. The brain is the same and functions in the same manner. I am also a liberal for all human beings, regardless of their color. We are bringing ourselves into a destruction that is going to take this country down.
You come into the world with nothing and will leave all your wealth right here. It does not make sense to hate and try to eliminate races of people! I am not naming names, but some of the politicians have sold their soul!
